BIO
Debbie Wijskamp is a Dutch designer based in Arnhem, where she lives and works at the intersection of art, material research, and functional design. She studied Product Design at ArtEZ University of the Arts and established her independent design practice after graduation. Early in her career, she gained experience through an internship with Dutch designers Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk.
Debbie designs and produces her own collection of handmade interior products and objects, characterized by a tactile, intuitive process in which experimentation and craftsmanship play a central role. Her work often transforms humble materials into sculptural pieces with a strong physical presence, most notably in her Paperpulp series.
Alongside her autonomous collections, she collaborates with international brands and companies. She has developed designs for IKEA, Serax, Heinen Delfts Blauw, Istanbul based brand Uniqka, Studio Drift, among others, translating her material-driven approach into ceramics, paper vases and other objects, leather objects, and commemorative pieces such as the Paper Pebble urn for Den Hollandsche.
Her work has been exhibited and presented widely across Europe and beyond. She is showing at galleries including Flow Gallery in London and Galleria Rossana Orlandi in Milan, and participated in international fairs and exhibitions such as Dutch Design Week, Maison&Objet, London Design Festival, Designblok Prague, DMY Berlin, and at CIFF Guangzhou International Furniture Fair in China. Her work has also been featured in exhibitions curated by trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort, including the book A Labour of Love.
Debbie’s designs have been published internationally in magazines such as Elle Decoration, FRAME, Interni, Marie Claire Maison, and Vogue Living, and featured in books including PAPER: Material, Medium & Magic by Prestel, V&A Papercrafts by Thames & Hudson, and Hands On! Dutch Design in the 21st Century by Jeroen Junte. Her work is recognized for its exploration of paper as both medium and message, celebrating texture, imperfection, and the beauty of the handmade.
In addition to her studio practice, Debbie is dedicated to education and knowledge sharing. From her studio she facilitates workshops and courses, and she teaches internationally at institutions such as West Dean College in Chichester, HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim, the Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in Beirut and VAKlab Bokrijk in Genk. She also collaborates with Domestika on the online course Paperpulp Objects and serves as a jury member for cultural and design awards, including the Vredeman de Vries Prize in Leeuwarden.
Through her ongoing exploration of material, form, and intuition, Debbie Wijskamp has developed a distinctive voice within contemporary design, one that balances experimentation with refinement, and autonomy with collaboration.
