CUSTOMIZING OBJECTS WITH PAPERPULP

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Debbie has been working with paper as a material for art and interior objects in her studio for many years. During this workshop, she will give you an insight into her creative process and introduce you to the fundamental principles of working with paper pulp.
We begin with an introduction to Debbie's work, the material itself, and the possibilities of paper pulp. We then move on to the practical part of the workshop. You will learn how to combine the pre-prepared paper pulp with a binding agent and, if desired, add colour. Afterwards, you will experiment with form, texture, and surface finishes while working on your own object.
YOUR OBJECT AS A FOUNDATION
Participants are asked to bring objects they would like to transform. Examples include a vase, plant pot, lamp base, bowl, wall shelf, candlestick, or other interior accessory.
The object you bring remains part of the final design. It is not used as a temporary mould, but rather as a foundation that will be transformed with paper pulp.
After booking, you will receive detailed information about suitable materials and examples of objects that work particularly well with paper pulp.
GOOD TO KNOW
To make the most of our workshop time, you will work with paper pulp that has been prepared in advance by Debbie. This allows us to focus on the creative process and begin designing and transforming objects straight away.
Paper pulp requires time to dry completely. You will therefore take home a unique work in progress that can continue drying after the workshop. Depending on your design, additional finishing touches can be added later at home.
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
This workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced makers. Curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and enjoyment of the creative process are more important than prior experience.
If you would like to explore paper pulp in greater depth by learning how to make your own pulp from recycled paper, work with moulds, and construct fully independent paper pulp objects, the multi-day intensive course may be a better fit for you.

ABOUT DEBBIE
“My goal is to inspire and to share the love for the wonderful possibilities and treasures of everyday materials”
For over 10 years, Debbie Wijskamp regularly runs courses and workshops from her atelier and gives guest lectures at art universities and companies, or (design)events.
e.g. She is a tutor at West Dean College in Chichester (UK) and at VAKlab Bokrijk in Genk (Belgium). She was a guest lecturer at the Product Design department of Art Academy (Zuyd) in Maastricht and at HAWK in Hildesheim (Germany). In 2016 she travelled to Beirut to led a course at Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA).
Debbie is open to inspiring collaborations within the Netherlands and abroad.
